The album was certified gold on August 12, 1969, followed by platinum and double platinum on November 21, 1986. As of March 27, 2003 it has been certified triple platinum by the RIAA. Cash won the Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for "A Boy Named Sue."</span>
