GANESA PANCHARATNAM
The five stanza hymn "Ganesa Pancharatnam" literally, the five-gem-paean on Lord Ganesa, by Sri Adi Sankara Bhagavad Pada in a string of five Carnatic ragas. The great Acharya extols in this hymn the transcendental exploits and traits of the Elephant-faced God, who wards off obstacles.
MADHURASHTAKAM
"Madhura-ashtakam" means the eight stanzas on Sweetness". Herein Sri Vallabacharya, the pro-pounder of a religio-philosophic school of devotion to Lord Krishna, describes every detail— including the minutest aspects touching Sri Krishna as suffused with sweetness. The refrain of each stanza is All things pertaining to the Lord of Mathura (Krishna) are Madhura (sweet). It is rendered in the Hindustani Raga, Misra Kamaj.
DAS AVATAR AM—GIT A GOVINDAM
This is the proem in Sri Jayadeva's celebrated Radha-Knshna love-legend "Gtta Govindam". In it the poet-devotee describes the stories of the ten incarnations of Vishnu, in a nutshell. True to her genius in music that transcends all limitations, Smt. M.S. delights the hearts of listeners by singing these in ten different ragas weft known in Indian classical music. NAMA RAMAYANA
The second side of the L.P. record is a veritable saga of the soul in devotion to Sri Ramachandra. The first is the famous Nama Ramayana starting with the very well known refrain "Suddha Brahma Paratpara Ram Kalatmaka Parameswara Ram" The Ramayana, great seven canto epic story of Sri Rama, is comprised in 108 lines. Each of this canto is being rendered in a separate raga. One remarkable feature of this
is that the Aranyakanda, where Sri Rama's exile to forest for 14 years is described by the poet in exactly 14 lines. The Authorship of the Nama Ramayana which has been held in high esteem for centuries now, is ascribed to various personages.
HANUMAN CHALISA
The last piece of the third L.P. which is the the central diamond of this Sri Venkateswara Pancharatna Mala is the welt known Hanuman Chalisa by Sri Tulsi Das the renowned composer of the great Ram Charit Manas. Traditionally Ganesa is the deity to be worshipped at commencement and Hanuman at conclusion. This disc starting with 'Ganesa Pancharatnam' comes to a finis with 'Hanuman Chalisa' rendered in six Hindustani ragas. In this hymn of 40 couplets in Hindi, Gosvami Tulsi Das eulogises the numerous noble attributes of Hanuman, who besides being a deity booning of benisons is also the ideal devotee of Sri Rama.
There cannot be a better or more fitting testimony to the cultural unity of India than this L.P. record, which contains the most popular devotional songs of the North, rendered by the greatest singer hailing from the South and dedicated to Sri Venkateswara, Lord of the Seven Hills, who is known as "Archavarara" in this earth.
