Fredy Engel, born in 1966 in what was then West Germany, is the child of an artist, the son of a Berlin emigrant, a musician, sound designer, and composer.
The former keyboardist of the Osnabrück-based trip-hop, post-kraut-rock, and synthpop band SANKT OTTEN has been active as a solo artist under the name MiDi BiTCH since 1995.
He has now devoted himself primarily to sequential, cosmic music with influences from the classic Berlin School, krautrock, dark ambient, and space dub.
He celebrates his very own musical universe of 70s synthesizer pads, motor-driven beats, and idiosyncratic melodic patterns,
paying deep homage to the old masters such as Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Boards of Canada, and Aphex Twin.

On the longest day of the year, when sunlight hangs heavy in the sky and the shadows wait patiently to return, a gathering of sound seekers convened in the fields of Borgholzhausen. Beneath open skies and the welcoming shelter of the barn, MiDi BITCH unveiled a live performance crafted for this exact moment in time: a solstice ritual of tone, movement, and resonance.
Sommernachtstraum ("A Midsummer Night’s Dream") is a sonic journey — composed exclusively for this event — capturing the radiant pulse of early summer and the delicate shift toward twilight. Each piece is an invocation: to light, to warmth, to the primal rhythm where nature meets machine.
This album is more than a recording; it is a living echo of that afternoon, when electronic music danced with cosmic timing. From shimmering ambient textures to rhythmic surges and modulated dreams, this set celebrates the victory over the sun, where day slowly yields to night and shadows stretch across the land.
