Büşra KayıkçıBorn and raised in Istanbul, Türkiye, Büşra Kayıkçı was introduced at an early age to artistic interests such as the piano, ballet and painting. As a young person she became fascinated with the work of classical and contemporary artists in a variety of fields. In 2011, having studied interior architecture and environmental design, and inspired by composers such as John Cage and Nils Frahm, she began to incorporate musical elements into her concept of design.
Over the years, Büşra Kayıkçı became increasingly convinced that a composer is in fact following the same path as a designer: the materials might be different, but the principles are basically the same. Using all the techniques she had acquired, she devoted herself increasingly to designing sound, drawing on influences from her everyday environment to create minimalist and modern classical compositions. In particular, she was attracted to the idea of creating new piano sounds through manipulating the instrument in different ways.
Kayıkçı’s interdiscplinary approach is also reflected in the visual assets that relate to her music. She creates these either completely on her own or in collaboration with friends and colleagues in visual design.
“I believe that, when listening to a song, we travel from space to space, and from time to time. When a melody touches you deeply, you can experience a place with your mind and your soul. So it is not only architects or engineers who can make a construction. Composers design an atmosphere with their musical instruments, transporting the listener to cities, gardens and landscapes.” Büşra Kayıkçı
In November 2019, Kayıkçı independently released the single ‘Doğum’ (Turkish for ‘Birth’), which was soon followed by her debut album ‘Eskizler’ (Turkish for ‘Sketches’), a collection of nine minimalist solo piano pieces. Among her subsequent digital singles were: ’Tuna’ (released in 2020), which was recorded on the Una Corda instrument built by piano maker David Klavins in Hungary; ‘Kuledibi No. 1’, created in collaboration with an Istanbul-based fashion brand and mainly inspired by the brand’s showroom, located in Istanbul’s emblematic Galata district, which for centuries has been home to people of numerous different identities, cultures and religions, and ‘Qarib’, which was included in the first Piano Day compilation, released in 2022 by Nils Frahm’s Leiter Verlag.
One of Kayıkçı’s most significant interdisciplinary projects to date was a collaboration with the New York Theatre Ballet in 2020. Choreographer Melissa Toogood used her music for a piece of contemporary dance, performed by Monica Lima, which was praised by the New York Times. https://www.busrakayikci.com/aboutAh! Kosmos aka Başak GünakBaşak Günak (IPA [bɑ: ʃ/ ɑk ‘/gyˈ: nɑ̟k /] ) is a sound artist and composer also internationally known as AH! KOSMOS in the field of electronic music.
Her work includes sound art, performance, sound installation, composition for theater & contemporary dance.
She released three solo LPs Bastards , Beautiful Swamp & Rewilding from Compost Records, Denovali Records, Subtext Recordings and numerous EPs. Both timeless and otherworldly, Günak’s work unconsciously defies being tied to a genre, tapping into something beyond an immediate surrounding or experience to communicate something more transcendental.
Günak pursues her sound experimentations as a sound artist, composing soundscapes for theater, contemporary dance, film and visual art projects, and realising site-specific performances. Her works have been featured worldwide in art institutions, such as The Barbican, Gropius Bau, Berlin State Museums, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Royal Theater Carré, Kunstmuseum Basel, Prague Quadrennial and Istanbul International Theatre Festival. In 2020, she has presented her work THE WELL, a piece for 11 speakers and performance in ARTER Istanbul. In 2023, she has done sound installation ‘distant hollow(s) like you’ for brass and speakers in 2023 in the ancient Çinili Hammam.
Performing solo or accompanied by a guitarist, she has performed at numerous venues and festivals including The Barbican (UK), Sónar Barcelona, Berlin CTM Festival, Venice Electro Festival, Tokyo Electronic Music of Arts Festival, ZKM Karlsruhe and ARENA Theater Festival Nuremberg. She has supported among others Sigur Rós and Jonny Greenwood, toured UK with Julia Holter.
In 2017, she launched FUU, a cluster that is conceived to flourish on the encounters between sonic and visual arts.
She is invited to residencies in Elektronmusikstudion Stockholm, HELLERAU Center For European Arts and to Bijloke Academy to realize her piece in hybrid format “Flesh is a flesh is a flesh”. https://ahkosmos.com/about/

Info for 'Bluets'‘Bluets’ LP was composed between Berlin and Istanbul as a collaborative work by two female composers.
Between 2020-2022, both composers translated their feelings of separation. Through the songs of Bluets, Günak and Kayıkçı reflect on moments and places where they could not be bodily present. They explore the concept of closeness and comfort in sorrow. Since distance magnifies the people and things you miss most, the album ‘Bluets’ became a multifaceted experience and a recollection of memories that rescue the heart when everything is torn to pieces.
In the composition phase, Günak cut, ripped familiar sounds, and they recorded noisy soundscapes that present both artists’ personal histories and connected each of them to ‘comforting’ sounds that they can’t access. Field recordings of Kayıkçı’s father’s machinery atelier and chaotic Istanbul soundscapes are used to create a feeling of familiarity. These personal memories are woven with the texture of dreamscapes and distant soundscapes, like melting glaciers and waterfalls, to reinforce the notion of distance.
